Jay Siedschlaw

In addition to teaching full time at Hennepin Technical College, Jay Siedschlaw has spent over 15 years designing projects in the Twin Cities area. His B.S. in Landscape Design from South Dakota State University has served him well, as he has designed/installed over 500 projects since 1995. Jay has proved to have broken the mold that “those that can’t—teach.” This myth is what led Jay to teaching in the first place.

A quote from Jay is, “I feel that the best teachers are the ones that have gone through the life lessons of a profession and are willing to share the good and the bad with the student honestly, preparing them for future success and a lifelong career.”

In 1997, Jay traveled to Germany to study the differences between European and American ways of garden design. Jay approaches his work with a clear vision of what “should” be done to what “can” be done. Both these great insights can help achieve great results for clients and are valuable to share with students. Jay also serves on the Landscape Design Committee with the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association. In his free time, Jay enjoys traveling, reading, camping, exploring and having fun in the great outdoors with his wife and children.
